Over 30 Eclipse Viewing Sites and Events in Hancock County, IN
Hancock County—April 8th is fast approaching and if you are looking for a prime spot to view the Great Solar Eclipse of 2024 – look no further than Hancock County, Indiana. There are over 30 different viewing sites and events located in the communities of Greenfield, Fortville, McCordsville, New Palestine and Shirley, IN. This county is in a prime location (just east of Indy) and very close to the center line of the Path of Totality which means these communities will be able to see a total of almost the total 4 minutes of darkness. In addition, Hancock County is a more rural community so light pollution from the big city lights will not be as much of a problem. Go to www.eclipseinhancock.org to find out about all the prime viewing locations and solar eclipse events.
What are some of the cool events that you will be able to see on the “Dark Side of the Moon?” Greenfield Parks and Recreation is hosting “Total Eclipse of the Parks” with viewing sites located in all the city’s parks and a large celebration at Depot Street Park with live music, food trucks, and activities. Lark Ranch in Greenfield will have their facility open and will include train rides and other activities during the day. Hug-a-Highland event is happening in rural Greenfield where you can interact with Scottish Highland cattle while you are viewing the eclipse. There will be science stations, food, and other activities available. The breweries and vineyards are getting in on the action with a variety of Eclipse Viewing Parties at Scarlet Lane Brewery, McCordsville; Moon Drops Distillery, Fortville; and Daniel’s Vineyard, McCordsville. You can get “Mooned” at New Palestine with family friendly activities, food and music at the New Palestine Lions Club. In Shirley, IN you can get “Dark in the Park” with a viewing location in a small rural town, and while you are there you can visit the unique Jane Ross Reeves Octagon House – where they will be selling food and other concessions.
